ASIK Maranao Dance
18:00 – 18:05
„Asik“ is a Maranao dance originating from Lanao del Sur, Mindanao and traditionally performed by the lady-in-waiting of the Sultan’s daughter. The maiden dances in doll-like movements marked by intricate hand and arm movements, accentuated by long metal fingernails. This dance is accompanied by the melodious sound of the „kulintang“, a set of 8 brass gongs and the deep sound of the „agong“.
Kaamulan Festival Dance (Dugso)
18:05 – 18:10
„Dugso“ is an all female ritual dance solemnly performed to appease the „diwatas“ or deities, to ensure good health, abundant harvest and protection from enemies and natural catastrophes. An offering is placed at the center where the ritual dance is performed. The joining of hands in reverse „T“ position symbolically signifies the tribe’s closeness to each other and the circle formation signifies their solidarity. This creative dance presentation of „Dugso“ was choreographed by Ana Maria Langer, accompanied by the Best of Kaamulan Festival music provided by the Bukidnon Provincial Tourism Office.
The Kaamulan Festival is the most authentic ethnic festival in the Philippines, celebrating Bukidnon’s rich culture, ethnicity and traditions. It promotes cultural preservation and historical recognition of the 7 tribes of Bukidnon. The Folklorico Filipino-Austria dance group proudly represents the Higaonons, one of the 7 indigenous groups concentrated in the northern and eastern part of Bukidnon.
