Philippine Martial Arts Demonstration

Arnis, also known as Eskrima, Kali, Garrote and other names in various regional languages, such as Pananandata in Tagalog; Pagkalikali, Ibanag; Kabaraon and Kalirongan, Pangasinan; Kaliradman, Bisaya; and Didja, Ilokano, is an indigenous Filipino martial art and sport. Arnis was declared the Philippine National Martial Art and Sport on December 11, 2009 through Republic Act 9850.

Philippine martial arts have been featured in several Hollywood movies such as „Bourne Identity“ series (Matt Damon), „Equalizer“ (Denzel Washington), „Book of Eli“ (Denzel Washington), „Dune“ (Jason Momoa), „Taken“ (Liam Neeson), „Mission Impossible III“ (Tom Cruise), among others. Actress Charlize Theron also displayed her skill in Philippine martial arts in Netflix´s „The Old Guard“.

Special forces units of different militaries and law enforcement agencies around the world are also trained in Philippine martial arts because of its practical and direct approach to close quarters combat and self defense.

Arnis is one of the cultural exports of the Philippines – an art that Filipinos and Filipino-Austrians can be proud of.
