08 Bulan – another dance journal

About me:

My name is Debbie Galias. I am a dancer and full-time art director currently based in Vienna, Austria. I love to communicate through visual arts and give simple things a deeper meaning. My work is straight forward, while still leaving viewers room for interpretation.

About my performance:

“What style of dance do you do?” A question, that I could never answer properly. Thus, in April 2021 I started sharing my exploration phase in order to “find my style”. Having a background in mostly choreography and competition performance, dance styles would merge into each other so I got confused about what I wanted to convey with my dance. 

I found myself diving deeper into the styles “Vogue” and “House”. In the process, I simultaneously felt such a strong desire to learn about my own history and culture, because how am I so invested in understanding other peoples stories without knowing my own? Filipinos have such a rich dance culture and I’m currently just scratching the surface.

Rather than a performance, I’m treating this as another dance journal. Sharing a small part, a snapshot of my life-long dance journey.
